There are more than 30 syringa species in Europe, from which syringa vulgaris surely is the most common one. For way too long syringa didn´t get the attention it deserves. Thanks to a lot of breeders and new interesting varieties things changed for syringa.
Today syringa is back in many gardens as an early flowering spring greeting and spoils it´s owners with it´s strong fragrence.
By now it´s available in various flowering colors, even striped in pink and white, there is variation in the foliage and even varieties with with an autumn leaf coloring.
Generally syringa is very winterhardy, insensetive and easy to care for.
